American Immigration From Asia
At the time of the publication of this piece, one of the major topics in US Immigration circles is possible legislation which might result in so-called "Comprehensive Immigration Reform". Although this is a topic that should be widely discussed, there are those who feel that the attention paid to this issue detracts from other important facets of American Immigration. The fact is that Asian countries are on the rise socially, cuturally, politically, and economically. As skilled labor in such countries becomes more available employment based immigration petitions submitted on behalf of those from countries in Asia are likely to increase. Also, family based immigration petitions continue to be popular for bi-national families.
Significant numbers of American Citizens have come to find that countries throughout the Asian continent have a great deal to offer in terms of tourism and employment. The upshot of this situation will likely be an increase in family based immigration petitions as those Americans residing overseas form relationships with people in their local community.
Visa petitions such as the I-129f (fiance visa) and the I-130 (US Marriage Visa) are popular among those US Citizens with a foreign fiancee or spouse. Places such as Vietnam and the Kingdom of Thailand see a relatively substantial volume of family based applications processed through the US Consulate HCMC and the US Embassy Thailand. In the case of Thailand, this is likely due to the large number of American tourists who travel to the Kingdom each year. In the case of Vietnam, the probable reason for the significant number of family based petitions processed out of that country may arise from the fact that there are a relatively substantial number of ethnic Vitenamese American Citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents of Vietnamese descent living in the United States. Those with family in Vietnam may be able to petition to receive immigration benefits for their loved ones. There are those who believe that there is a strong probability that more family based visa petitions will be filed on behalf of those from Indonesia as more American tourists discover that country and in the process meet someone special.
Meanwhile, nations such as: China, Singapore, and China boast a relatively high number of US Immigration petitions for employment. This may be due to the fact that many citizens of the aforementioned countries have a great deal of technical prowess in areas such as Information Technology, Engineering, Biotechnology, and Telecommunication.
Individuals wishing to obtain United States immigration benefits are well advised to seek the assistance of a competent American Immigration lawyer. Sadly, in Asia, and around the globe, there are some who claim expertise in American Immigration matters without qualifications. For this reason, it is always prudent to ask for the credentials of anyone claiming to be an American Immigration Lawyer or "specialist". The easiest way to ascertain an individual's credentials is by asking to see a State or Federal License to practice law or a membership card for a State or Federal Bar Association. Upon such credentials being remitted to the prospective client, it might prove beneficial to cross reference this documentation with the relevant State or United States Federal Court.
